Ubuntu SERVER black screen problem

The problem is with monitor display for Ubuntu 12.04 server headless is showing a black screen, however, with this state, the SSH and all other functionality will work without any problem. Another problem is through SSH; the reboot will not work. It will be stuck on the GRUB menu after reboot; the physical machine has to be approached to start the session.
SERVER CODE executed after this is sudo apt-get upgrade grub
